Female- Raised from a 2 month old 10/98 hatchling..
Now proven breeder!
This
female is the smallest [ 10 1/2" ].. and the most colorful! Also nesting
"trance"..whereas.. I've picked them up by the rear of the carapace
to rob the eggs.. and they are totally oblivious to what's going on! Click
again to see one of her '07 hatchling's full view.
These
3 Colombian females were raised from 10/98 hatchlings.. so you might imagine
what it was like.. when I watched each nest.. for the first time! These
Colombian females consistently produce rich..
amber, pumpkin, burnt-orange.. and occasionally "dark chocolate"
and banana colors.. with symmetric and 'mirror-image' patterns all over their
heads.. seen throughout this site! <<<
>>> 5th
female-
Our
young "coming-of-age" Brazilian.. aka Cherryhead.. nesting! Although
she's still small.. 11" [ "Dwarf" is questionable? ].. she
is beginning to produce more consistently. It's still unlikely that her Brazilian
'mate' is contributing much..!!! See her recent hatchling.. click pic. UPDATE
6/09 Our Brazilian
male is now mature.. and is producing babies. Another male is "acting"
like a stud.. see him and others on - Cherryhead
- page above.. raising up for a diverse "gene pool". PURE
Brazilian CH coming early '10! <<<
>>> Another couple
examples of what these Colombian "blood-lines" produce!

Let's
not forget Sonshine.. in case you missed her's above..
YIKES!!! <<<
>>> Redfoot
Tortoise - Geochelone carbonaria
Our 3 Colombian's
became "breeders" in early May of 2004.. with the first eggs laid
on July 30th 2004. The females above are beauties from Colombia, South America
lineage. Few "Colombian" blood-line Redfoot breeders exist these
days.. at least those that are don't make many available.. { they export/wholesale
}! I've lowered my incubators
to 82-84F.. which has helped with "hatching" results - (see below*).. and
will produce a good male/female mix.. according to my "guru"!! There
are "some" breeders of tortoises that claim.. that they can "temp-sex"
by raising the temps in the incubator. *This will often cause 'split-scutes'.. and
not always create females. Determining
the sex of a redfoot tortoise.. is virtually impossible until 6"-7"
in SCL at the earliest! CRF..
is "Colombian Redfoot".. most available are Colombian. SS..
is Sonshine - "Guyana Redfoot".. very limited numbers. BR..
is "Brazilian Redfoot".. AKA.. "Cherryhead". The
COLORS and/or PATTERNS on the head, carapace and legs.. is what determines
the value of these Colombian/Guyana "blood-line"! A
"pip" is still in the egg.. In the "nursery" is in the
process of absorbing yolk-sac. "Starter" has absorbed yolk-sac and
eating {soon?}. Rule of thumb is 6 weeks after
starting to eat.. before available to ship.. NO EXCEPTIONS! <<<
>>> "Redfoot
Tortoise" CARESHEET Finally
a "Caresheet" specifically
for Redfoot Tortoises. I've included how I've
raised hatchlings to become "proven" breeders.. and how their hatchlings
are started.. with pics.. so when they arrive..they "..eat right out
of the box.."! Lighting.. diet.. humidity requirements.. enclosures..
simple easy ways to keep your new hatchling healthy and happy.. all included
in the link above.
This info may only apply to Redfoot Tortoises..
and no other tortoise in the world!!!!
****************************** Now..
when everything looks good above.. the below is how business works. ****************************** TERMS
OF SERVICE:
You can expect honest
dependable service.. healthy, beautiful and most unique colors. Prime specimens
that eat "right out of the box"..with no unexpected "Vet."
bills.. ever. Friends for life.. "Caresheets" and ongoing consultation..
that is documented with pics! And you get to choose the exact one YOU want. All
sales are final.. there is a $50 fee for cancellation before shipping. Once
your tortoise(s) leaves here it is considered an order and any and all changes
on your part for any reason is considered a voided sale. So if you decide you
do not want your order.. before, upon or after delivery (within 24 hours of receiving)
- there will be a 50% refund only. And of course you will also be responsible
for any costs to return the order. In the unlikely event there is a DOA.. 100%
satisfaction always.. with replacement. If any delay in shipping occurs you
will be refunded 75% of your shipping costs. My
love for G. carbonaria.. aka Redfoot tortoises.. has become a scientific /
educational / research "business"! So I'm now in the business of
providing unique redfoot tortoises! I'm also in business to promote the best
care possible for redfoot tortoises.. which has been proven to work. As I strive
to accomplish these things.. I've found that some don't get it and are not
sincere about doing what it takes to enjoy these endearing creatures for a lifetime.. so
( not by choice) I've had to place the "TERMS OF SERVICE" in order here. Before
shipping.. hatchlings' yolk-sac is completely absorbed and eating habits are established! See
the "choosing" and "hatchling diet" page of our new informational
'site.... Redfoots.com I'm not
in business to take anyone's money! My reputation is based on happy, satisfied
customers.. found in the links below. Hatchlings
are available for scientific, educational or research purposes only. Not as pets. UPS
next day 10:30a-Noon.. will average $50-$65.. based on your zip-code. POSTAL
Money Order* is preferred and most secure.. [
* please keep in mind.. any Money Order other than a POSTAL M.O. is considered
the same as a personal check and takes 2 weeks to process at my local bank
- just another delay! Not my idea ] "Verified" PayPal is accepted
also. When a commitment to send
'deposit/payment' is confirmed.. your choice will be posted as SOLD
on the Currently Available page. If after 5 business
days it is not received.. your choice will be returned to inventory. I've
been asked too many times "Is that one still available?.. I wish it was"! And
I hadn't received the payment. I
feel that if someone is not willing to take care of the business part.. how
willing will they be to commit to the care part? ****************************** ******************************
"Early
choice of upcoming hatchlings" RESERVE
OPTION In the past couple of
years we have made hatchlings available thru a "RESERVE OPTION" program
that has proven to work well. Simply
make a $100 deposit per 'option'.. which will give you your choice of the
next one to hatch. If you do not choose that one.. your "option"
goes back in rotation. So the sooner in the season you get your "reserve
deposit" in.. the better your options.. which gives you more choices. Example:
{ I'm editing this.. hopefully to simplify } Let's say you determine you want
2 upcoming (or current) hatchlings. We make arrangments
for your 'deposit'. You send the $200 deposit. You
then have the "option" on the next 2 that
are available. I will send you pics of 2 to choose
from. [ you will see them before anyone else does ] You can choose 1 or both
or neither.. whichever one(s) you don't choose goes back into the mix and
is available to next in rotation. Your 'option' then becomes the next 2 in
rotation. (Rotation is based on the number of others that have 'reserved') This
Reserve Option is designed to give you and others an opportunity to choose.. so
everyone has the chance to get the exact one they want. Hopefully this doesn't
become confusing - you really can't lose! The
"balance", plus shipping, would be due when your choice is ready to
ship. Ready to ship is age.. Hatchling
Choice and temps at UPS sort facility in Louisville, KY. - minimum low
of 50F.. KY
Weather Individual prices
will vary: Colombian "blood-line"
starts at $185.. $200+ avg. ( usually darker carapace with "pumpkin/orange"
colors ) Guyana "blood-line"
starts at $200 avg. ( usually lighter carapace with "yellow/red"
colors and legs ) Brazilian
- "cherryhead" - start at $225. ( dark carapace/plastron with traditional
'cherry-red' head ) EXTRAORDINARY..
bring as much as $350.. $250 avg. ( those with unique 'solid/symmetrical'..
colors and patterns on head.. carapace and legs! ) Pics
will be sent direct to you.. before being posted as "available" here. And
this works well because.. You
get the exact one(s).. You want! ******************************

Check back often.. please. See "Currently Available" above. Please

- no reason to look any future here-
These Colombian X Guyana "blood-line" are not cheap.. they
ARE the most unique colors you will ever see in redfoot tortoises..
(amber/butterscotch).. and they tend to stay smaller than pure Guyana locale.
They sure start out smaller! Another
